Composed in parts between 1921 (the Andante Religioso and Allegro Solemne movements) and 1938 (the prelude). The work was inspired by the sight and sound of the bell tower of the Metropolitan Cathedral (Matriz Church) of Montevideo from the ABC Hotel, on the corner of Sarandí and Alzaibar.
