The song was originally composed to set music to a work by the artist Juan Angel Urruzola about Granja Mendizabal, an old farm in the Carrasco neighborhood well remembered for its mansion and its century-old trees. This founding farm in eastern Montevideo was demolished to build the Portones Shoping.
